The data has made very clear that that is not the case because families with children, just like everyone else, lose access to SNAP when they can't get through those added bureaucratic obstacles in that red tape.
And in fact, families with children, many of whom are working families, are perhaps the least likely to be able to sit on hold all day trying to get through on an overloaded phone line when they need help with their benefits or to
You know, they can't take time off work to travel in person to a social services office to try to get someone to actually help them navigate these additional paperwork hurdles.
So in many ways, these types of red tape, these bureaucratic obstacles can fall most heavily on families with kids.
And I think it's hard to overstate the devastating impact of even short periods of food insecurity for children.
Right.
And that is what we are seeing.
We're seeing families who are where the parents are skipping meals because they want to make sure that their kids get enough, where the family is choosing between buying groceries and paying for groceries.
other essentials like rent and utilities and when kids lose access to snap they also lose automatic links to other programs and support so kids who lose access to snap are also losing the automatic eligibility for free meals at school they may still be eligible if they fill out a household application or they attend a school where all students get free meals without paperwork
But it does increase the risk that that loss of SNAP will compound as they lose access to other supports.
