It is, I don't know, that professor I mentioned, Nick Bloom from Stanford, did talk about some of the challenges of hybrid with respect to sort of employees getting to choose which days they work from home versus their employer telling them when they need to come in or work from home.
And that basically most employees want to get to decide, you know, okay, I work from home on these days and I come into the office on these days.
But when you don't have coordination among employees, then you end up with on any given day, you know, there might be very few people in the office and then like the whole energy of the office is off or it's just, you know, people shouting into laptops.
And so his point was basically just that there's this tension between what's most effective as far as how to respond.
run an organization and from, you know, workflow and culture perspective versus what employees actually want.
So it'll be interesting to see what happens there and if more companies will end up dictating which days people do have to go in or if they will, you know, continue to let them choose and then run into some of these issues that, you know, that I just mentioned.
Thank you for having me.
And there's this organization called the Sabbatical Project that actually did interviews with 50 people who'd taken sabbaticals, and they found that there was a common theme of what they called functional workaholism, which is, you know, people just obviously working way, way, way too much.
This was like one of the first things I asked people because in my head I was like, wow, I think it would be hard to go to someone and be like, hey, I think I need three months off because what does that say about, I don't know, your commitment to your job or your overall well-being?
I don't think people want to admit that maybe they need something like this.
So I did ask everyone about this.
This guy from Adobe, you know, interestingly, he's been at the company 17 years.
And he said it's so ingrained in the culture, like everybody takes their sabbatical when they're eligible, that it fosters this sense of it's okay.
So he said it's not actually like uncomfortable when you're due for it.
He said, you know, to ask for it.
He said, people, if anything, look at you funny if you don't take it.
Yeah, so the latest data we have on that is actually from 2019 from the Society for Human Resource Management.
And they have found that around 5% of companies offered them at that point in time.
So they still aren't extremely mainstream just yet.
But we have seen some big names starting to offer them in the last two years, including Goldman Sachs and Citigroup as well.
