It was reasonable.
And it just kind of all felt like each successive next step was quite sort of reasonable to arrange.
So we just did it and we opened as a children's bookshop.
And for the first five years, I didn't write anything because it's really time consuming being a bookseller and also really exciting.
It's there and it's there printed actually on the item.
It's one of the few things.
But we do get mistaken for a charity shop a lot.
But that's just because our town is overrun with charity shops.
Because obviously retail units are very expensive.
Charity shops can take them on whereas other independent businesses can't.
at this point and obviously you do have to make caveats for people's budgets and sometimes it is more convenient for people to buy things elsewhere you know we understand that and it's never kind of you should never buy books from anywhere else but if you can afford to buy the recommended retail price at an independent bookshop obviously that money immediately is back in your own community you know we pay our taxes um it's the best um it's the best combination for the author and for the
As being a writer now, obviously, a few months ago, I would only ever be saying, buy independent, buy independent.
And now I have a book published that I have sort of have to go, you can buy on Amazon and leave me a review.
That'd be really nice.
And it's, you know, really quite conflicting.
But at least I've kind of got a nice excuse to say, my preference is your own local independent bookshop always.
Yeah.
No paper jacket because they get so damaged in transit.
Often we unpack books and the paper cover is already torn or it's been folded slightly wrong and it's bashed.
And then immediately you've got to discount that book or you've got to return it.
