Sulzberger, publisher of The New York Times, recently had this to say at a conference of our peers in journalism from around the world.

When I heard his remarks, a lot of it resonated with me, both as a journalist and as someone trying to get my hands around what is to come in the age of AI.

For you, the listener, think about it this way.

You expect to be able to access accurate information from a plurality of sources with relative ease, as long as you have the internet.

AI's effects on digital ecosystems and on the news media's business models make that less of a given every single day.

So I want to get into AI, and I will, but A.G., I would be a terrible journalist if I didn't start with some news that has recently affected your paper.

So specifically, I'm talking about the subpoenas that the Justice Department issued to several Times journalists about their reporting on the Air Force One jet that was gifted to the Trump administration by Qatar.

The Justice Department also issued subpoenas to third-party phone service providers to obtain text messages and phone calls between some of those journalists and their family members.
