Yes, that woman actually used to work as a full-time middle school English teacher, but the pay was so poor that she had to move back into her parents' home just to make ends meet.
After she had enough of teaching, she switched to working as a freelance copywriter.
Now she only works about 20 hours a week, but she has the time to exercise and meet up with friends, but the best part is she's able to afford her own apartment now.
Oh, definitely not.
It depends on the industry.
And sometimes the situation can get kind of dire.
A 2020 survey from Economic Policy Institute, a policy-focused think tank, found those working for food delivery service or rideshare companies often experience poor working conditions and low pay.
In fact, the survey showed that one in five gig workers couldn't even afford enough food to eat.
Being an independent worker means sacrificing some stability for control and potential to make a lot of money.
Being your own boss can pay off massively by allowing you to craft your own schedule and not have to worry about answering to anybody else.
But at the end of the day, there is the risk that you won't bring in the same business that you would working for a company.
