as good writers most of them are quite privileged they don't have to work they have the space to write yes they have the space they have the education it's a skill that you develop yeah to be able to put the words on the page yeah all of that and so people like me don't
always get a chance to be a writer because we don't get the opportunity.
We don't have the space to do it.
Now, I do because I have forged a new life and I'm no longer poor.
But a lot of people who are working class don't get a chance to write.
You just mentioned class there.
Yes.
I wrote this recently in an article.
Yeah, 100%.
Someone will say, like, well, we don't really have a class system in Ireland the same way they do in the UK.
And I go, okay, so go buy a house in Ballymun then.
Go sell your gaff in Killiney.
And then they'll go, well, hold on.
And I'm like, no, no, no.
If there's no class system, you'll live anywhere because we're all equal, right?
And don't get me wrong, Ballymun's an amazing place to live and the people are amazing, but it's an underserved community that's been that way for many, many generations.
So yeah, the denial of class doesn't mean that it doesn't exist.
It does exist.
And when we keep it hidden, we actually don't solve it at all.
So we're making our judgments.
