In Suffolk County, he jump-started the Gilgo Beach investigation that seemed to be on life support when he arrived.

The Gilgo Beach task force was created in 2022, and very quickly after, Rex Heuermann was identified as a suspect.

He was arrested the following year.

Our guest has written a very interesting book about his career called Commissioner from Street Cop to Top Cop in the NYPD.

And it details his work on the Gilgo case.

He's also launched a law enforcement consulting business.

Your career as a New York City cop and police executive

meant you were part of a number of compelling cases throughout the years.

What did the Gilgo Beach case mean to you once you became involved?

And how much did you know about the investigation before you got on board?

Yeah, I mean, you said that it seemed that this just went on the back burner.

But what were your impressions of what happened in the investigation prior to your arrival?

And what was the state of the case file once you did get there?

If you could get a little bit more specific.

And what were some of the differences that you noticed between the NYPD where you spent almost all of your career and the Suffolk County PD?

I mean, you spoke in your book about, you know, walking into some politics and antiquated traditions.

Can you speak a little bit more on those?

Did you ever learn why the FBI was booted from that case?

Yeah, it feels like all of this just really could have put the entire investigation in jeopardy.
