And the pictures were of the landscape.
There was a picture of Skip playing his guitar in the same area that the detectives were currently standing.
And there were also photos of Teresa.
But the police noticed something really important.
The topography that was visible in the photos of Teresa.
Was very different from the area they were standing in around Browns Creek.
The campsite that Skip had led them to was almost certainly staged, and it was not where she disappeared from.
The real campsite where the two had been, the police believed, was somewhere else, somewhere closer to Shedi Peak, possibly in the vicinity of Ghost Canyon.
That was more than 20 miles away.
But even though police believed that they were in the wrong place,
That was still the area that was searched.
They organized air and ground searches with helicopters and bloodhounds, and for a moment, it actually did seem like one of the bloodhounds had picked up Teresa's scent, but then the dog lost it.
And after that, a search helicopter that was scanning the area from above spotted something blue on a hillside near the camp.
Investigators made their way over to it, and it turned out to be a
a blue shirt.
And Skip admitted that that shirt was his, and when police reached into the pocket, they pulled out a small baggie of meth.
After that, nothing else turned up.
There was no trace of Teresa that was ever found.
But authorities now believed Teresa was dead and Skip Welch was responsible.
But without a body, they couldn't charge Skip with murder, at least at the time.
