Obviously, with glandular fever, that doesn't do anything, but we didn't know that I had that at the time.

Um, fast forward to two weeks post our trials, I was training feeling really, really average.

And I was like, Oh gosh, like this is really embarrassing.

Maybe I'm just a little bit of a hole, not good timing, but, uh, a blood test later confirmed that I did in fact have glandular fever.

So we tried to manage my training load, strip my sessions right back to only doing 4K, no pacing sessions, which is really hard when you're trying to get ready to go for a Commonwealth Games.

No suits, nothing.

So it was quite boring.

I was on my own watching the rest of my teammates do the sessions and push themselves.

And it was just frustrating not being able to give myself 100%.

And I think at the end of the day, that's kind of,

What tilted me towards not going on the tour this year is just realising that I'm not able to give 100% and that opportunity needs to go to somebody else who has trained really hard and deserves to be on that team.

I think 100% it was relief because as an athlete, you're always fine-tuning the smallest of things and looking for 1%.

And I couldn't even get a 1% in every day that I was trying my absolute best.

So I was getting very frustrated and frustrated.

Didn't really have an answer, so it was really nice to actually have someone say, oh, you have glandular fever.

It doesn't allow your body to execute things the way that you would allow it to usually do.

So that was the biggest relief of all, not thinking that I'm just old and washed up.

So thank goodness for that.

I think that's something that just speaks true to my character as well.

My parents have always told me to be who you are no matter what you're going through.
