Robert found the main group a day or so later, higher up on the mountain, still pushing east through that thick scrub.

The most abled body were, you guessed it, Captain Delgarno, First Mate Smith, Second Mate Mahoney, but also one of the cabin boys and the ship's carpenter, who was a seaman named Fritz.
As they moved further east as a group, something really changed.
The bush started looking neater, more orderly, almost like someone had once tried to cultivate it.
And then on June 5th, first mate Andrew Smith spotted something over the next ridge.

The men just started running.
After a month of starving and watching each other die, the sight of a chimney meant people.
It meant that there was food out there, maybe rescue.
They ran into the skeleton of this small house that the chimney belonged to, only to find that it was this little abandoned community.
They had actually stumbled into the ruins of a settlement called Hardwick.
