We have reported before on the Global News podcast about the growing number of countries taking steps to limit or outright ban children using social media.
But that is not a quick or straightforward process.
And in the meantime, regulators continue to pressure tech giants to do more to protect young people from online harm.
In the latest such case, the EU has ordered TikTok to change what it described as its addictive design.
So what is it about TikTok that the EU has taken issue with?
The bloc's tech chief, Hena Verkanen, spoke to Leila Nathoo.
I appreciate that you're highlighting concerns about the impact
on children and young people.
But when it comes to adult users, I mean, they are consenting adults.
I should just say that TikTok has told us that the commission's depiction of the platform is categorically false and they are going to challenge the findings.
Those sort of features that you highlighted don't seem unique to TikTok.
Or is there something about how these features are used on TikTok that is particularly concerning?
