So I was talking about this with Dimitri, too.
Do we think it makes sense for Cale to do like a four year deal where he kind of signs for a pretty high AAV, but then has a chance to go back to the market at 31?
Or does he take advantage of the CBA where up until September 15th, he can sign for that eighth year and he gets, let's say, 17 or 18 million dollars?
It's really what he's more comfortable with, because I could see both deals working for both sides, honestly.
But I think Cale is going to sign before training camp.
It's just what that term is going to be.
And it's probably going to be around that 18 to 19 million AAV because he is the best defenseman in the NHL.
You can make arguments for Wierenski and Quinn Hughes, but he's right there.
Oh, no, I honestly don't.
I think players will come close to the max.
I don't think anyone's going to take that max deal.
And like we said, like Schaefer's probably the next young player up to potentially take the max deal.
But aside from him, like there, there wasn't really anyone in the pre in last year's draft class that I think is going to be a max guy.
And then in this year's draft class, the top two forwards were wingers, which isn't necessarily a premium position when you're paying top dollar.
So I don't see any of those guys taking the max.
And, you know, Nikita Kucherov is up.
Sidney Crosby is up.
But those guys aren't in a position to take max Kucherov.
You could maybe make a little bit of argument, but Tampa's cap strap and he's going to take a little less to stay there in Florida where it's advantageous on his tax structures.
