And in this book, I'm like, people did everything themselves, you know, built their homes, built their boats, built their praise houses, didn't have doctors, but healed people through root doctors, you know?

had their midwives that brought babies into the world.

They could make a life for themselves on this island.

So it was the opposite of everything that I've been told.

So a lot of the erasure around race and our history is about kind of a starting kind of

white superiority trying to assuage like white guilt, but we can't sacrifice our history because of these feelings of like white guilt, or I just want to like have power.

There's just immense value in like going beyond the kind of general, you know, stories that are out there and historical research, which is in a lot of as great as important that's under attack.

But then also where do we sit?

Where do our families sit within that history?

And how are you tied to that history?

It's an important journey.
