Notice who is actually in control.
Pilate is sweating.
Pilate is afraid.
Pilate is negotiating.
He's losing his grip.
But Jesus is composed.
Jesus is silent because Jesus is sovereign.
The man on trial is the one who truly reigns.
Even bound and beaten, Jesus is the king, not because the crowd crowns him the king, but because his throne was never theirs to grant.
And that's why this is so important to you.
There are times in your life, times in this world where it looks like Jesus has been defeated.
Maybe you look at a world in chaos and wonder what God is up to.
Where has he gone?
Maybe you experience personal pain or
Loneliness or some significant defeat in your life, and it's hard to believe that God is in control.
But Jesus lets you know that even when he is being flogged, even when he's being mocked and crucified, he is still the one in control of all things.
He is still king who reigns over all people.
