And he finds this guy out of Providence College, an AD who was well-respected in those circles, but not really known where you usually bring in a well-known GM who has had experience.
And when he first came into our dressing room, fellas, I'll just tell you this.
we're looking at this guy and he kind of reminisced the Wolverine.
Like you could tell he commanded respect right away.
And that's kind of what you want.
And it was like, don't F with this guy.
You could just feel it right out of the gate.
Like, you know, we've maybe thought initially we're going to run rough shot on this, this rookie GM and college guy, guy coming from college.
When he came in the room, oh boy, did you listen?
He just, he had that it factor, that factor of,
you want to mess around and find out trying to deal with Lou Amarillo.
And that's kind of how right out of the gate, the message he got across that I'm going to bring some structure, discipline, belief that this team is going to turn it around.
And it started with physicality because he felt the team was getting pushed around a lot from watching previous years.
And so he added some reinforcements and he mentioned that.
I'll never forget a meeting where
Dr. McMullen, we called him, our owner, will always, and Lou Lamerill, address the team, address the camp, all 60 guys that were in camp at a dinner prior to opening day.
And Dr. McMullen gets up there and goes, and I always remember this so well, he goes,
Yep, we're no longer the team that poor Kenny Danico has to go down to Philadelphia and get his head kicked in.
It's that words verbatim because they added a young Troy Crowder and Jim Corn and Dave Maley and a couple of other guys that, you know, could bring some physicality along the way.
And that's something Lou wanted to address when the game was played that way.
