So you would have, and in so doing, they thought that this might sort of diminish the appetite of the Romanian prosecutors to pursue this case because the real estate developer would have less interest in the land and they would cut a deal with the state that would pay them.
But the end result, if this were to have gone through, which it didn't, was that would have been that Hunter, the Romanian, and the Chinese would,
would would co-own the land around the U.S.
embassy, if not the land itself on which the U.S.
embassy was built.
You could see why that could cause national security concerns.
And it did.
One of Hunter's partners at the time, Tony Bobulinski, actually raised this concern to the Romanian real estate developer and said, hey, we need to make sure that the embassy is not included in this transaction.
It never got far enough for that to happen.
