I was actually in Gallipoli a couple of years before the 100th anniversary, so it would have been in 2006 or 2007, I was there, maybe 2008, I think I was there.
And I actually went down and stood on the beach
April 25 on the beach at dawn.
And what surprised me, Warren, is given the sun where it was and all the rest of it, and you picture this was the actual beach where it all happened.
And this was the day that it happened.
So from a seasonal point of view, it's exactly the same.
And I just thought these poor buggers had no chance because
Where the sun was and the way it all looked, the Turkish soldiers up on the hillside, on the cliffside, they all silhouetted the Australians.
They just would have been easy pickings.
And I just remember thinking, mate, how brave are these blokes?
And looking the other way, you couldn't see much because the light wasn't that good.
But half an hour later, it was all fine.
But I remember just...
that moment I was down there by myself just looking there and just you could see that there was just the silhouette there was just I thought this is just an extraordinary thing to think that people actually sent here thinking that they could they could get up that cliffside.
Did you have ancestors die on the wall?
My great great uncle fought in World War One.
He got shot at the Somme.
His brother died.
And my grandfather fought a Kokoda, which he never spoke about, to be fair.
