I think it is an element of it.
Like, I think whether Luis Castillo is the outbound guy at the deadline, and I know they've talked about not wanting to trade from their pitching depth, but they also have two of the top ten prospects in baseball at AA ready to go.
And I say AA because Seattle doesn't have their top pitching prospects pitch in AAA because it's in Tacoma where the PCL environment is too... Nightmare.
To nightmarish, yeah.
So, like, Kate Anderson and Ryan Sloan are also ready to go.
They functionally have eight probably major league ready pitchers.
And there are few pitchers on the market, and the Mariners really need hitting help.
This all seems to me like either they don't want to permanently move Luis Castillo to the bullpen because he's got the Barrios contract basically from here, or they're just trying to, like, let this resolve itself at the trade deadline and just kind of juggle it around until then.
