How did I come across that?
Well, I was looking at some of the Blue Jays' stats, and the Blue Jays are the second worst team
when it comes to those things behind the Giants.
The Jays are 24th in how often they've gotten into hitters' counts.
So when we talk about some of their chase issues, and yes, they're a high-contact team, but when you chase and make a lot of contact, it means you're making contact on pitchers' pitches, stuff out of the zone that maybe you can't do damage with.
That is an issue for the Blue Jays.
They're 29th in pitches per plate appearance seen.
That is an issue.
Only Colorado is more of a free-swinging team.
You can have that as your identity if you're a very high-contact team and you can do damage early in counts.
The Blue Jays have not done that.
They're near the bottom of the league in isolated slugging, so how much power you're adding on top of your batting average.
And probably most frustrating is that when they had some of these things, some of these indicators last year, they were at least the batting average team.
