The Glebe Visitor's book is impressive.
In 1981, the controversy over the nature of the funding of Angel caused a rift between the Association of Independent Producers and members of the newly installed Irish Film Board, primarily John Borman.
With Borman's commendation, Neil Jordan approached Channel 4.
Jordan secured £400,000 in funding for his debut feature Angel.
This sum was believed to be eighty percent of the budget, but it came with the proviso that John Borman acted as guarantor.
Then all hell broke loose, and among the subsequent denunciations were claims of a conflict of interest because Jordan had filmed a documentary on the making of Borman's Excalibur, but more that the Irish Film Board by co funding Angel to the tune of one hundred thousand pounds.
It was leapfrogging more senior and established directors in favour of Neil Jordan.
This left a bad taste in everyone's mouth.
And despite being universally acknowledged, then as now as a stunning directorial debut, the controversy over Angel brought down the first committee of the Irish Film Board, caused John Borman to decline key positions in Irish film circles, and resulted in seven years passing before Neil Jordan shot another film in Ireland.
Telsha died of ovarian cancer in nineteen ninety seven.
She was thirty nine years old.
John planted a Himalayan larch in her name.
