We both got together and started the Coaches Association about 20 years ago.

So he's a very caring person and obviously put the candle on the cake of what a great person he is and always will be.

Well, it would have been a shock for me to be sacking him on the... basically just about the 24-hour kneel down at his side.

I mean... But look, I thought eventually one is he'd been very unlucky with the injuries that he's had.

But to me, I thought that...

He improved himself as a coach with his two preliminary final appearances.

But I think he just didn't sort of gel at Essendon at any stage.

And probably in the end, I think whilst he's unlucky, there's no doubt about that with the injury toll that he's had over the last two years.

I think that Essendon's probably crying out for the coach to come along and give a little bit of success.

No, no, it doesn't worry me at all.

I think it's good.

I think it's open.

I did make a comment yesterday when I was interviewing that to coach Essendon, you've got to love Essendon, and I think he does, and I think he'll do anything to make sure he gets this right this time around.

If he ever gets it, he may not get it.

I mean, there might be sort of people at Essendon that may never want him to coach Essendon.

I don't know who they are, but...

I think in the end, the people and the fans most likely do, and I don't know what the sort of feeling is around town, but I would think that if he got a chance, he wouldn't make this one up.

And we all know, Gary, I mean, how long and how hard it is to find a coach who can win you a premiership, because I think Rob went through about 13 or 14 after Norm Smith, and Richmond went through...

Richmond went through about six or seven in 10 years.

They were very hard.
