Roberts originally pleaded not guilty to animal cruelty, but later reached a plea bargain with prosecutors.

Wednesday, a judge sentenced him to 18 months of probation and a $1,000 fine.

He also can't drink or be in a bar or a liquor store while on probation, and he's prohibited from hunting and fishing.

Had he gone to trial, Roberts faced up to two years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
