The DOJ unsealed the indictment Tuesday against members of the Iranian Mabneh Institute, which charged them with a systemic campaign of hacking into nearly 150 American universities, more than 40 private American companies, and at least five government agencies since 2013.
The indictment states that the Iranians stole more than 31 terabytes of academic information, as well as email accounts from the private companies.
Eight more were added in Tuesday's filing.
Foreign universities and companies were also targets of the hacking campaign.

The DOJ unsealed the indictment Tuesday against members of the Iranian Mobna Institute, which charged them with a systemic campaign of hacking into nearly one hundred and fifty American universities, more than forty private American companies, and at least five government agencies since twenty thirteen.
The indictment states that the Iranians stole more than thirty-one terabytes of academic information, as well as email accounts from the private companies.
The hacking was conducted to benefit the IRGC and other Iranian entities, and nine of the defendants had already been charged in a prior indictment.
