My name is Khalil El-Namrouti.
I am a professor of economics.
Islamic University of Gaza, Department of Economics and Political Science.
Before the war, the unemployment rate in Gaza Strip was high, one of the highest unemployment rates, in fact, in the world.
During the war, the unemployment rate has skyrocketed.
Nowadays, most of the people
They don't work.
And if people who are working, they are not getting full income from their job.
I am working in the education sector, but I don't get full salary because, you know, most of the universities has been demolished and they don't have sufficient money to give salaries.
So they give 40 percent, 50 percent.
Many young people, they start like, you know, searching for work.
What is growing in the Gaza Strip?
I can say something called as the unorganized economy.
like street sellers, something like that.
We love our country.
This is the place we were born.
We have relatives, we have friends.
We are used to living in this place, so we love this place.
Many young people, many young students also, people, they are frustrated because of this continuous suffering.
Many people, they are saying, OK, we will go outside.
