It's such a pleasure to be here.
For most people, what psychiatry is doing is helping them to cope with symptoms.
And that is a in and of itself, I want to point out, a worthy, a worthy cause, a worthy thing to do.
Without psychiatry, there would be a lot of suffering too.
Um, and that's something that we have to contend with when we think about how to put these
Things in context.
We can't just get rid of psychiatry entirely, at least not at the moment.
And that's why I say when I open the book that I'm calling for the end of psychiatry or at least a kind of end.
I want it to look like something different.
But what I mean when I say that, you know, psychiatry helps to anesthetize the pain and allow people to get back to work.

This as an undergraduate here in the US when I went to college.
So I went to Princeton and I'd never been to the US before I arrived here.
And I
Realized that I was struggling to cope with what was going on in school.
You know, my grades weren't very good.
There was a lot of reading.
We had a lot to keep up with.
And I looked around me and realized that many of my friends and colleagues were on stimulants.
They were taking drugs like Ritalin and Adderall to help them to study.
