I can't say that it was, you know, all of the medical care or all of the social care or all of the like empathy.
But what I do know is that the problems that she was having were enmeshed with her social life in a way that was inextricable.
And to be
able to contextualize that illness and that distress, I needed the time to be able to sit with her.
So having that time is a way that we can subvert the capitalist way that healthcare systems in America are structured.
Cognitive liberty is an idea that I learned from Matt in America.
And it's about really the right to mental self-determination.
It's the idea that we should be able to alter our consciousness however we like, whether that's through drugs or yoga or therapy.
But we should also not be coerced by others to alter our consciousness, whether that's through drugs or yoga.

You know, I was caring for my mother and she was in a period of particularly severe mental distress sh, you know, shortly after the pandemic had started.
Um, her her business ended up going bust and um she was extremely anxious about the financial precarity that she was in and the strain and burden she was going to put on me as her son taking care of her.
She wasn't sleeping enough.
Um, she
She wasn't interacting with her friends and her family.
She was cutting herself off from social connections.
Um, and I was with her in Zimbabwe, but I had these shifts that I had to get back to in Boston at the hospital that I was working at.
And I I had a I had a time clock, you know, the time was ticking and I needed to leave.
