Hi, I'm Kim Vanel in London.
It's Tuesday, September 8th.
Today.
Iran-backed Houthis attack Saudi Arabia, wounding dozens.
The UK prepares to announce a trade ban on goods made in Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank.
And China's Huawei drops a foldable smartphone just days before Apple's reveal.
This is Reuters World News, bringing you everything you need to know from the front lines in 10 minutes, seven days a week.
The Iran-backed Houthis have attacked US ally Saudi Arabia in a massive escalation, which once again risks the Iran war spilling over.
The group hit energy facilities, setting off fires, and attacked cities across the kingdom, injuring almost 100.
The Houthis, who are based in Yemen, have been launching attacks since declaring a naval blockade against Riyadh in July.
Meanwhile, Tehran is threatening the US with economic warfare.
Oil prices have climbed to six-week highs.
Tehran also says it's fired an advanced missile at American warships near the Strait of Hormuz.
The US military says its ships evaded any attacks.
The UK is set to announce a trade ban on goods made in Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank.
It's a major symbolic move, and the latest sign that the international pressure on Israel's settlement expansion is reaching a tipping point.
In the West Bank, that expansion is being driven, in part, by a family of Israeli settlers who are churning out pre made buildings to accelerate the expansion of illegal outposts.
They're called the Libby Brothers, and since the October 2023 Hamas attacks, they've established outposts across the occupied territory, while also leasing bulldozers to the Israeli military for demonstration.
