People often point to Hungary as a classic example of this.
What did that look like?
Your own research points to sort of the counter to Hungary, which is other countries like France and Sweden that have media that's less vulnerable to media capture.
What do they do differently?
You know, you mentioned earlier that when media capture happens, you know, journalists are either no longer able to or just don't choose to perform their watchdog role on government.
So in a democracy, if you're an average citizen and you think we're sliding towards media capture with all the risks that come with it, what's a citizen to do to sort of arrest that slide?
Rod Benson is a professor of media, culture, and communication at NYU and author of the book How Media Ownership Matters.
