He talked his own way out of his own freedom, which is just ironic to me.
And then there's kind of a strange part of this I wanted to share.
Something that has nothing to do with the trial and has everything to do with the world that Chris came from.
In December of 2019, Chris's father, the man who supposedly pushed him towards marrying Jade, who had threatened to cut him off, whose money and whose expectations sat behind so much of what Chris did, or he said so, he was shot and killed.
Chris's dad was gunned down outside the family's snack bar in the early hours of the morning in what looked like a targeted hit.
His assistant was abducted and the case was actually never solved.
Chris was not there to even bury his own father.
I'm not going to pretend to know what any of this meant.
I'm not going to try to guess at what connection was made here because nothing has been proven.
But it's part of the story.
And it tells you something about the world that all of this grew out of.
The world that this family was living in.
The types of things that were going on.
Maybe there were more secrets.
Chris's mother lost so much.
After the sentencing, she said that people assumed that her and her husband didn't love Jade, but that wasn't true.
That Jade's family was, of course, in pain, but so were they.
They lost a lovely daughter-in-law that they did love.
And in a different way, they lost a son, too.
To prison.
