And here's the thing.

This wasn't just one store among many without cameras.

All of the EB Game locations in San Antonio

had cameras.

This was the only one that didn't.

Every other store in the area had some level of surveillance, but not this one.

Now, whether that is a budget decision, an oversight, a district level call that no one pushed back on hard enough, I can't say.

What's clear though, is that it was known.

The people who worked there clearly knew it.

Management knew it.

And Amber, who was responsible for that store,

And every time she showed up for the opening shift, she knew it because it started to weigh on her.

She actually raised the issue with her supervisors.

She said that she felt uneasy opening the store by herself, especially around the holidays when foot traffic was unpredictable and tensions in the retail environment tends to run higher.

She said it out loud to the people who were supposed to be responsible for her safety, but the store stayed as it was.

Then there's what happened in 2004.

Amber was working her shift when the store was robbed.

It was an armed robbery, not a smash and grab, not someone swiping merchandise and running.

This was a robbery, and she was there.

And she came out physically unharmed, luckily.
