At this point, weeks have gone by, and Brooke's family didn't feel like they were being included in the investigation.
They were speaking out left and right to any and all media outlets that would give them the opportunity to go public with their concerns, which was the lack of communication and lack of updates from the police.
They had to consistently and constantly call in and beg for information, and they found that to be very inconsiderate.
So they organized their own community meetings, not only to discuss Brooke's murder and to gather their own tips, but to talk about the unsolved ones that still plague Knox County.
The meeting had a name.
It was called Citizens for Accountability in Government.
And Brooke's mom, Janet, told reporters that she felt sick, that the killer was still on the loose.
She said, Brooke is not here anymore.
She can't breathe.
She can't laugh or talk or sleep.
and her brother will have to live with what he saw for the rest of his life.
Someone stole her life and stole her from us.
Every day that goes by is another day of freedom for the killer and another day further from the truth of finding out who took
Brooke's life.
Then Brooke's dad Maurice added, I know our police officers are probably working as hard as they can with their limited amount of resources and manpower.
But our biggest fear is lack of community support and that people will forget what has happened.
Both of Brooke's parents said they know that nothing
will bring Brooke back.
