And you say to yourself, I want to be part of this.
I want to live in a cool place.
I want to be introduced to beautiful women and to get opportunities on campus.
And then you sort of have to apply to be a part of it.
The people that are already in the fraternity, they look over your resume, your application, so to speak, and then they do a formal rush.
Now I always wondered why it was called rush.
Like why do they call it rush week?
And I found out while doing this case, it's because rush comes from that period of time when fraternities are rushing to get to the freshmen before another fraternity grabs them.
So this is just recruitment.
It signifies this active role.
that the fraternity takes to find the very best members.
There's also sort of a secret society in a lot of these fraternities.
But if you're not familiar, other things go on like hazing and terrible things like dares, where these fraternity members want you to prove that you're worthy enough to be one of them.
and they can make you do some crazy things.
You know, it can start out pretty innocent, like dare you to kiss a girl, but then things can get way worse.
That's why there were allegations of forced intercourse within the fraternities.
There were stories of men trying to overpower innocent women
and get them to do what they want at these parties.
This can be a part of rush week to see if the wingman can do his job and bring in the prettiest girls because they wield so much power on campus.
These girls don't speak out.
