What about when you were small then?
You were born in 1955, just a couple of weeks before Rosa Parks sat on the bus.
Yes.
It's really interesting that your life has sort of been lived in parallel with all of those incredibly significant moments in civil rights history.
You're looking better than he is.
I think so, too.
So the early days then, you were brought up in Manhattan, right in the center of where it was all happening.
And you have a brother, Clyde.
And your mother and not your father.
Your father left.
And was your dad, was he a minister or preacher?
Yeah.
And when your mother got her master's then, when was that?
Was that decades later?
That must have been an incredibly proud moment for you in a kind of reversal.
So how did you find out she got her master's?
