At the adoption of the WHO sepsis resolution, sepsis was not a priority for the WHO.
It was no inform, there were no information on the centers for disease controls in any country.
Sepsis just was mentioned in the global burden of disease report in terms of neonodes and maternal sepsis, and there were no guidelines.
And
Now we have data and they are shocking.
If you look at this, you will see that there are countries in sub Saharan Africa where over fifty percent of the population dies from sepsis.
And even in high income countries,
The incidence is in a range which is
unacceptable high.
And it was already mentioned that sepsis is preventable and probably also the most preventable cause of death and disability in Europe.
And when we founded the European Sepsis Alliance under the patronage at this the former Commissioner for Food Safety and Health, Dr Andre Okaitis, we extrapolated
Because there were almost no data on country levels, data from Sweden, which we had.
And there was already at this time a mortality of fifteen percent and an incidence in the range of eight hundred by one hundred thousand.
And extrapolating this data for the rest of Europe, we ended up with at least three three point four million cases and at least six hundred and eighty thousand death.
