Whereas the Austin African American Book Festival, founded in 2006 by Dr. Rosalind Oliphant Jones, was established to create a dedicated space to celebrate, sustain, and elevate black literature in Austin and Central Texas,

And whereas inspired by a vision to honor the legacy of black storytelling and its connection to freedom and cultural expression, the festival has grown into a cherished annual tradition held each June following Juneteenth.

And whereas for nearly decades, the festival has brought together readers, writers, and families through dynamic programming, youth engagement, and the indie author showcase, fostering a deeper appreciation

for African American literature and its impact across generations.
