Thing is, and you can see this looking up and down Lake Avenue from where we're standing.
There just aren't a whole lot of suitable commercial spaces left in Altadena.
And the asking price for the ones that could fit a hardware store aren't doable, even with insurance.
I think I had read that there was a rumor you had a place and everybody got all excited and that turned out to be... There was somebody that started a rumor that we were going in where the Rite Aid went out.
The Rite Aid building is about a quarter mile north of where we're standing.
Talking to the business owners, that is, but nothing panned out.
And in a way, it makes sense that a rumor would start because this place was a neighborhood institution, the hardware store in town, and people really wanted to come back.
Tell me about the people who work for you, or I suppose used to.
I mean, some of them still do, some of them still don't.
How are they holding up and...
That's 15 jobs, by the way.
Insurance did cover payroll for a year.
That included benefits for many of his employees.
And while Jimmy is still able to do a small amount of business here in town, running deliveries here and there, it's not nearly enough to rehire people.
Obviously, we've been talking to Joey Galloway about this building, about knocking it down, about the insurance, about this and that.
It's going to be a while yet, don't you think, Jimmy?
