Uncertainty is still around on that, but active management and being dynamic in an environment that's likely to be one, volatile and two, dispersed, that's the kind of environment that actually active managers like because it gives them lots of opportunities and it's where the ability to be a bit more dynamic becomes more important.
Yeah.
I mean, what we try to do, again, as long-term investors, we don't want knee-jerk reactions to announcements or very near-term market moves because, as you say, the market will react one day.
It'll often then rebound pretty quickly once it's had time to digest the news.
So, we're not day traders and we're not going to be changing the portfolio materially just because we've got
an announcement in a market reaction to it.
What we're trying to do is say, okay, what's actually happened?
What are the likely implications of that?
How confident are we that we've been able to sort of assess what the implications are?
And therefore, do we have enough conviction to be able to take a position or do we feel strongly enough that we need to change the position either to manage risk or enhance return around it?
And that's – you know, it's not a perfect science, of course, but that's the approach that we generally take.
And sometimes if it's just – if it's uncertainty and you're not able to really land on what the implications are or there's – you know, the range of possible outcomes is so broad –
often the best thing you can do is just stick and trust your long-term strategy and, for the most part, ride
Didn't I say early?
It's very difficult to predict returns over a one year period.
So we don't try to, if I had to make my best sort of estimate, I would say we're somewhere in the mid single digits perhaps this year, but I will caveat that there's a broad range of possible expected outcomes around that.
So don't hold me to it next time I talk to you.
Lovely.
Thanks, Phil.
Bye.
