When I got home and Dad shared this with me, I called a couple of friends and they all immediately thought perhaps she's a gold digger or a fame digger.
the internet had started to emerge at that period of time.
So she was able to Google me and find out exactly who I was.
And instead of waiting for me to call her, she called me because she wanted to hear my voice.
And when she rang me, she attempted to make up for 27 years in lost time in the first five minutes of our phone call.
I'm sensing that was...
pretty overwhelming.
Very overwhelming.
And I instantly feel, I felt threatened.
I felt scared.
I felt uncertain.
And my normal response to that is to retreat and to shut out.
So I basically really just wanted to hang up the phone on her, but I did that respectfully.
But I basically said, I'll come back to you when I'm ready.
And so I went back to Hawaii and shared some of this information with Ken.
And then
What I didn't realize, because we all have a story, and the biggest illusion in communication is the fact that it's actually been shared.
I didn't know her story.
I didn't even know what story I had wrapped around it.
But, you know, she had just recently lost her fourth husband, I think, or third husband from pulmonary fibrosis.
