It's more about dealing with the property as a whole and deciding on where that goes.
So there's only one little special rule when it comes to house, and that's if you've got kids.
Yep.
And we're going to talk about that a little bit later.
We're going to talk a little bit about what actually happens to the house.
Then we're going to talk about how you decide who keeps it and figuring out what it's worth.
And then we're going to talk about if you are keeping it.
Then we're going to talk about the kids part, if you're not keeping it, if you're both selling it, and some stuff that you might get stuck on and the personality type.
We've got a lot to get through, so let's see if we can get through it all.
Hello, I'm Laura Furiosi, Divorce Mother of Three, and I'm here with my mother, Lynette Galvin, with 35 years experience in family law.
You're listening to the Divorce Course Podcast.
Through our candid discussions, we hope to help you through your divorce or de facto separation.
We will be answering the most commonly asked questions and covering the stages and steps that you will face on your way to freedom.
When people actually separate straight away, Mum, is there any rule?
Does something happen to the house straight away?
Does someone have to leave for it to be a separation?
So you've got to figure out just in the early stages whether someone can afford to move out to start with or whether you have to wait till property settlement or is there other alternatives?
Can you go and stay somewhere else?
People worry though, Mum, that if they move out, they lose their claim to the house.
They've been told, I don't know, by some American lawyer on Facebook or TikTok, you move out of the house, you lose your right to it.
