Her lawyers were trying to convince the court that she had suffered from, I guess, a form of psychosis where she disassociated and had amnesia is what they were saying.

And the court rejected that and denied.

Because I think there were so many elements of planning and constructed conduct, the sentencing judge and in fact the Court of Appeal as well just thought, no, like the other facts were so aggravating that we couldn't even give her any kind of parole period because of, notwithstanding her mental health issues, everything else was far too severe.

And yeah, we absolutely cannot assume that she won't offend again.

That's right.

They said she was an absolute danger because of the past behaviours.

I often don't.

I'll just say I'm a lawyer and leave it at that.

But if they want to get into the specifics, I know I'm going to be met with this question, which is, what do you do if you know they're guilty?

I've got an answer.

I tap for that every time.

And what is it?

It's just that some people are guilty but it doesn't necessarily mean that they want to deny the truth.

Sometimes they're advocating for the best pathway forward for them and society.

So it's not a matter of us lying or denying what's happened.

It's what's the best way forward in terms of rehabilitation and protection of the community.

Absolutely.

And the jury determines the facts.

They're not there to determine the law.
