We went on this tour of like spots related to Bowie, like the studios where he'd recorded and clubs where he'd played.

We went to where he lived, which is now dentist.

And we were stood outside, people were laying flowers and crying, putting records down and terrible weather.

trying to keep candles lit.

And then this poor cow stumbled out of the dentist's office, like clutching her vase, still out of her box on Novocaine or something, singing Starman or something.

It was a very, very strange day.

Yeah, so that's how I heard David Bowie was dead.

And I never actually got to meet him.

Although when Alexander Geist, when he was at his peak, there was a David Bowie retrospective that was at the V&A and it toured.

And when it came to Germany, Alexander Geist and his band opened up for that exhibition.

And I had the very strange experience of talking to the curators and saying, does David know we're here?

And they would just say, David is involved in every aspect of his career.

And I'd say, yeah, but how about this?

David's involved in that.

So I never knew.

And as for siblings, yeah, there are a couple of figures who cast a long shadow on this book.

Obviously, Bowie, Catherine Hepburn, Nan Golden, from whom I got the title.
