So there is a multi-state effort.

It was piloted in Colorado, begun in 2016.

The governor there, John Hickenlooper, was very happy with the results.

And now the initiative, which is being funded and mainly coordinated by a private foundation, they've gotten 19 other states to sign on.

And I think we will have to see what happens with this because workforce development efforts are complex.

They involve

Lots of stakeholders.

You have to make sure there's communication loops between employers, educators, career counselors, and job seekers.

It's a very complicated undertaking.

But the fact that so many states have signed on and are willing to invest resources in it is very promising.

Well, that's the question.

And one source that I spoke to said, when there are lots of job openings, employers invest in training.

When you don't have open jobs, there's not so much urgency to it.

So whether or not these investments will hold even after companies get a little bit less desperate, we'll have to wait and see.
