So I was, we're talking 1982, you know, 83.
And I didn't know anything about trans.
I knew a little bit about transness, but like, I just knew that I didn't, I would go to bed every night praying to God, please don't turn me into a man.
And as puberty happened, it just,
the whole thing became unbearable.
And so the only way to deal was to dissociate, was to leave my body.
And I didn't start to come back until I started medical transition.
And that for me was the beginning of like, I had to do, I understand now that I had to start my medical transition before I could really even deal with the psychological, emotional trauma of my childhood.
So for me, I had to like,
I had to be able to be in my, stand to be in my body.
And I didn't even realize until, I mean, it's been 10 years that I've been working with Jennifer, how much, because also Nadine Burke Harris says in that TED Talk that, you know, we're hardwired to release adrenaline and cortisol, to fight a bear or flee the bear in the woods, you know, the bear.
And a lot of women would prefer bears to men.
We heard recently, allegedly, according to the internet.
But the powerful question Nadine Burke Harris asks us, what if the bear comes home every night?
What if this wonderful thing that is adaptive, this release of adrenaline and cortisol that we, you know, just for survival that we have, this adaptive thing, if the bear comes home every night, it becomes maladaptive.
And if we're constantly releasing adrenaline and cortisol, we're constantly in that survival space, that...
So there are a lot of negative outcomes to that.
And it's just exhausting.
It's really exhausting, never feeling safe.
And that's why I'm really in a whole thing around, because for so many years, people were like, oh, these SJWs, these social justice warriors in their safe space.
