And that's not to suggest that they're about to, but they'd actually gone 12 years without surviving the group stage at a World Cup, which is baffling.
When you consider that no country has been to the World Cup semifinals as often as Germany has.
They've been 13 times.

I don't think I would list Germany among the early favorites either.
I mean, there's a lot of holes in that team still.
Schlatterbach seemed to be injured and maybe wasn't the strongest suit on that team to begin with.
They have some problems there.
They don't really have a creator of Musiala's not on it.
You know, is Kai Havertz the striker that's going to get you all the way to the semifinals, to the World Cup final?
I'm not so sure.
