It's off the low base, I suppose it's the first thing.
The numbers are improving though, and probably the key take out is that the recovery is broadening through the regions and also through sectors.
Yeah, to some extent there is quite a lot of slack in the labour market.
The unemployment rate is 5.6%.
The encouraging thing with yesterday's data was it shows that the demand for labour is still there.
If it was not for the Middle East conflict, the economy would be absolutely booming and jobs growth would be much stronger.
But we'll take what we're given.
But this really suggests that the unemployment rate, the direction from here will be downwards.
Yeah, recovering.
Up 0.6% year on year, certainly lagging the south, but the strongest is mid-2024.
Wellington was actually up as well.
So yeah, a rising tide lifts all boats.
Auckland will be probably one of the last to feel it, but the signs are still encouraging.

We all know that recording a child's
special moments, sporting achievements is a lovely thing to do in most cases, but there are real risks out there, mainly due to the advances in digital technology, digital manipulation of photos, that sort of thing.
Well one of the things that we're saying to schools is try and focus on the activity rather than identifiable faces for example so maybe take a photo of the race or the school production but not in a way that could lead to people cutting and pasting for example the faces of children out of that photo when it's put online.
