As an Iranian guy myself, this made me even more angry for a bunch of reasons and Mike really had to work hard to calm me down.
And that's when he hit me with the news.
He was moving out in three months.
Now, I was kind of mad at him.
He was going to leave me with these people who clearly didn't want us here.
And that's when he suggested that I sell up and, for the time being, move in with him as his roommate.
It felt kind of juvenile, as men in our late 20s and early 30s respectively, but Mike was moving to my dream city, San Francisco, and I had family there.
It wasn't actually a bad idea, so it was decided.
We'd leave this weird, creepy neighborhood watch cult in our rearview mirror and move out.
And that's when things got really crazy.
I started receiving notes, again, on the neighborhood watch letterheads, and this time they were accusing me of running a meth lab in the basement.
At first, that's all they were.
Statements and accusations.
And then they escalated.
I could call the cops and shut you down, but I won't.
Not yet.
That kind of thing.
And the next, I received an ultimatum telling me to shut the meth lab down or something terrible would happen.
Now this was all insane.
Obviously I was not running a meth lab in my basement, and the biggest piece of evidence in my defense was that I did not even have a basement.
