This has barely begun, and there's no parallel sort of removal action, but it's a criminal.

Yeah, the law does not permit the agencies to to pay for this in any way.

And so the officials are on their own.

The legal staff at the board of governors cannot represent Powell in a proceeding um being brought against him by the Justice Department.

They can't represent him in a removal action.

By the president.

And so these matters require you to hire your own counsel.

And there are organizations that arrange for lawyers to represent people in these positions pro bono, or we'll pay the legal fees, but it definitely has an impact on who can serve in the government.

part of why the stakes of this are quite high.

This is this sort of thing scares people away from government service uh and and leads to resignations.

Recall over the summer that you know Governor Coughl resigned abruptly and without explanation six months before the end of her term.

And I think there's a fair amount of information in the public domain now that she was also being investigated.

And, you know, Alvaro Badoya, for example, was a commissioner on the Federal Trade Commission like Rebecca Slaughter, who was removed by President Trump in the spring.

And, you know, he had to go out and get another job.

And so he can no longer sue to be reinstated in his current job.

You know, he can only sue for damage now.
