And even saying this now just sounds depressing to me, that I was looking for money to hang out with cool kids around my block.
And I remember my mom kind of looking at me just like, okay, you know, I think she was a little sad.
One, that her youngest son didn't have any friends to hang out with.
And two, that her youngest son needed $5 to hang out with kids
and she didn't have the money either.
We didn't grow up with a lot of money.
Both my parents were working.
We had, you know, they had four kids.
My parents had my brother, my older brother, when they were 20 years old.
So it was kind of like, you know, they were working multiple jobs.
My dad was for many years while my mom was taking care of four kids by the time she was 30, just trying to figure things out and just get ahead in life.
And so it wasn't like they had all this extra money.
It was a lot.
And I remember her checking the couch cushions
and finding quarters and finding loose change.
And she grabbed a shoe box for me and she put this loose change that we found throughout the house.
She opened up the dressers.
I think she had a couple of dollar bills in there and the rest was change.
She handed it to me and said, here you go, go join the club.
And I ran back to this neighborhood, you know, down the street to this neighbor's house and I brought them the money.
