And even then I thought neither of those two things appealed to me.

But she always had a book in her bag.

So I was really impressed by that.

I know it's a really small detail, but it does tell you quite a lot about someone.

She told me that she always had a book in her bag and I saw her over several days and I really, really empathised with her because she completely bowled the audience over.

Again, she was not very well known at all outside San Francisco and the applause for her was thunderous.

And one of the first things she said, you know, was, was I good?

Was I OK?

Was I OK?

And I thought, oh, I just know what it's like to not feel OK.

Even though she'd had all this evidence that everyone else could see and hear and they were expressing, the audience was just totally, totally knocked out by her.

And she was phenomenal.

Her whole heart was in every, you know, syllable she sang.

Well, I think it was the first of the major pop festivals anywhere.

And it also was, I think, the beginning of what looked to me as though it was going to be life changing, as though everything around us was going to change because peace, love and brotherhood was everywhere.

I'd never been anywhere where people wanted to share food and everyone spoke to everyone else.

And I had this very, very strong feeling that the world was going to change and it was going to be a much more equitable world.

It seemed so exciting to me and I knew the world could change overnight.

I knew that very, very well because from both my mother and father, the world did change overnight.
