McConnell announced his retirement in early 2025 after more than 40 years representing the Commonwealth in Washington.

McConnell was the longest-serving Senate Majority Leader.

Barr has been representing Kentucky's 6th District since 2013.

In his speech in Lexington on Tuesday, Barr reiterated talking points about veterans, coal, and his common-sense beliefs he said Democrats don't share.

Barr received an endorsement from President Donald Trump, giving him an edge over other candidates in the race, including former Attorney General Daniel Cameron.
